Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly. - Mike Stewart -

Thank you so much for participating in our All Exempt Staff Conference in Indiana last month. The feedback I have received from your presentation has been overwhelmingly positive. Your message on regenerating spirit in the workplace still resonates through our organization. Several of our managers have mandated that each of their meetings begins with three minutes of good news as a result of your recommendation.

Testimonials

You are a remarkable woman with so much to share. I can honestly say that in my 18 years of being with Domino's and going to meetings, you are one of the very few speakers that I can even recall (along with dear Dave Thomas) that had a powerful message that impacted my business. Since then, we worked to make things fun for our management team with regular outings, luncheons, sports activities and various game and movie tickets, etc. Just wanted to let you know that what you are doing is valuable and really does make a difference.

Idea of the Month from Barbara Glanz

HELP YOUR CHILDREN HAVE A POSITIVE ATTITUDE ABOUT WORK.

This idea is excerpted from Barbara's book "Balancing Acts: More Than 250 Guilt Free, Creative Ideas to Blend Your Work and Your Life" (Dearborn Trade Publishing, 2003) $14.95 To order this book, go to the PRODUCT section of Barbara’s website.

Most of us will spend the majority of our lives working, at jobs both paid and unpaid. It is important that we help our children feel good about our work and thus about working in general. Here are some suggestions to give our kids a positive attitude about work:

1. Select books to read about different jobs or professions. Richard Scarry’s word books are especially fun to read.

2. Tell your children what you do for a living in language they can understand.

3. When your children complain about the number of hours you work, remind them how they benefit by your working. Of course, the financial reward is a direct benefit, but you and your family gain from your experiences, the people you meet, the friends you make, and the places you travel.

4. Try not to always blame your crankiness or tiredness on work. Let them know that work can also be stimulating, uplifting, and satisfying.

5. Above all, try to make time for your children no matter how hard you work. Let them know that while you want to provide for them, they are more important than your job. Your children should never feel like they have to compete with your work.
